Curriculum
Three Kings School has a wide and varied curriculum which is supported by support and extension programmes, the School Dispositions and the New Zealand Curriculum.
Classroom programmes include Inquiry based learning, Health and Physical Education and e-learning.
The New Zealand Curriculum identifies five key competencies – these are the capabilities people have, and need to develop, to live and learn today and in the future. They encompass knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values.
These ideas help us to consider whether our students are ready and willing, as well as able, to learn.
Thinking | How do we make sense of information, experiences, and ideas? We encourage students reflect on their own learning, use their intuitions and be curious about the world around them. |
Using language, symbols, and texts | Information and ideas are expressed in lots of different ways. Students are learning to communicate confidently with others using language, symbols, and texts. |
Managing Self | We’d like our students to have a “can-do” attitude, seeing themselves as capable learners who are resourceful, reliable and resilient. It’s important to know when to lead, when to follow, and how to work independently. |
Relating to others | This competency includes the ability to listen actively, recognise different points of view, negotiate and share ideas. Students become aware of how their words and actions affect others knowing when to compete and when to co-operate. |
Participating and contributing | Students who participate and contribute in communities – be it at home or school – have a sense of belonging. Students will understand the importance of balancing rights and responsibilities, and of contributing to the quality and sustainability of social, cultural, physical, and economic environments. |
